Mappy wrote:As for Madoka Magica.... It occurred to me a long time ago that this show will have no real rewatch value. It is great the first time round because it is all full of loldramatic revelations. But once you've seen it all, what's left? Cute girls eating sweets or being eaten by sweets.
I've finally killed my month's bandwidth catching up to the damn show (720p is the devil. I miss 175MB mkvs with good encoding.) and I nuttted out just why. It's because the show's focus is purely on its mystery-driven plot. It's got a single season to cram in as many twists and turns as it can, and so it has left absolutely no room for character writing. Thus, it's just a bunch of archetypes getting traumatised. There's no reason to give a damn, because we've seen all these people in better delivered things before.
I'd peg the blame on the sole writer for the show being Gen "Blasreiter and Phantom" Urobuchi, but I don't think the fault goes to either him or Shinbo. It feels like sponsours are demanding a specifically edgy product to impress investors and awards shows with, regardless of how the staff would like to do things. After all, Shinbo's quite open about how he enjoys making character-driven shows the most. It's why he keeps going back to Hidamari Sketch and Arakawa.
Level E is still great, Wandering Son is still irritating, Yumekui Merry is still Kurokami with dreams, IS is still babby's first harem, Freezing is still babby's first harem gone horribly wrong, Gosick is still boring, Dragon Crisis is still bollocks, Kimi ni Todoke is still relationship reset, Mitusdomoe is still finished, Shouwa Monogatari is still not subbed, Suite Precure is still not Heartcatch Precure, Wolverine is still LOLMadhouse, Rio: Rainbow Gate is still dildos and Beelzebub is still tragically not canceled.
Yeah, that's basically how it's going down this season. As terrible as Beelzebub is though, at least it's
enthusiastic about being a dumb show instead of trying to be something it's not.
Although I don’t know about the directions at 4:51.
It’s commonly known when you look north in Japan East is to your left. Please don’t try to correct that sentence. It lasts only for a second but I wouldn’t expect a mistake like that.
