News: Funimation Confirms Google Warnings, Sites Now 'Clean'
Distributor's sites flagged for linking to malicious software sites over the weekend
Over the weekend, Google's search engine flagged search results that linked to North American anime distributor Funimation's websites with warnings that "this site may harm your computer." Additionally, the Chrome and Firefox Internet browsers showed a warning page when users attempted to visit Funimation's websites. Funimation has confirmed with ANN that it received notification over the weekend that the search engine had flagged its sites for linking to known malicious software (malware) sites.
In a comment issued to ANN on Monday, Funimation stated that the issue "was related to [its] internal ad banner server" and has been resolved. As of press time, Google search results no longer show the warnings.
The company's full statement follows below:
"Over the weekend we were notified by Google that a few of our websites were being flagged for linking to sites known for distributing malware. As a result, Google displayed warning pages to visitors to some of our sites. Upon review of the information provided by Google, we determined the issue was related to our internal ad banner server and have resolved the issue.
As of today, Google has reviewed our websites and found them "clean" and has removed the warning pages."
