Shion was not harmed even though she was at the house at the time of the murder but the shock of seeing her parents lying dead in a pool of blood resulted in the loss of her voice. The Ishiwatari neighbours and close friends, the Yasuoka family (made up of Yasuoka Shinji and his wife Sachiko) adopted Shion after the murder and raised her as their own daughter and so she was renamed Yasuoka Shion since then. Shinji is a professional Shogi player and during the years that passed after the murder, he taught Shion how to play shogi. Shion was a natural at playing shogi. She learned the game very quickly and mastered it at an early age. She rose quickly in the ranks of the game and became a genius professional player just like her new father. Based on the dojin soft murder mystery visual novel series Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni produced by 07th Expansion.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei covers the three extra chapters from the visual novel series:

Batsukoishi-hen (罰恋し編 ,Penalty Loving Chapter?)
A slapstick dream story in which Keiichi and the Soul Brothers fight against the girls by means of the club punishment games. This chapter was originally an epilogue titled Otsukaresama-kai which came with Meakashi-hen, but it was deemed too irrelevant and silly and was removed from subsequent chapters.

Saikoroshi-hen (賽殺し編 ,Dice Killing Chapter?)
Saikoroshi-hen is an epilogue of Matsuribayashi-hen which takes place two months after the events of it in August 1983. Rika is run over by a truck and wakes up in a totally different world, where none of the tragic events of the main series ever happened: Keiichi is not in Hinamizawa, Rena's parents did not divorce, the dam project was resolved smoothly, and neither Satoko nor Rika's parents died. However the club never formed, meaning Rika has no friends, Hanyū is absent, Rika isn't revered as the reincarnation of Oyashiro and the village will soon sink underwater. Rika has to choose between staying in that world or committing a certain grave sin that will enable her to leave that sinless world.

Hirukowashi-hen (昼壊し編 ,Daybreak Chapter?)
Hirukowashi-hen is based on Higurashi Daybreak. The main characters are Keiichi Maebara and Rika Furude, and this story is set in a parallel world. One day, Rena accidentally swallows something in her mouth during her usual treasure hunting. According to Rika, the seal of the sacred "Fuwarazu Magatama" pairs were broken and Rena must have accidentally swallowed one of them. The magatama holds mysterious magical powers in which a person that has the red magatama will blindly fall in love with anyone with the white magatama.

Based on a novel by Nasu Kinoko, writer for TYPE-MOON. Kara no Kyoukai plays in a parallel universe to that of Tsukihime. Considered the precursor/inspiration for the story of Tsukihime.

Ryougi Shiki was involved in a car accident and fell into a deep coma for two years. When she finally awoke from it, she had gained the “Eyes of Death Perception” ability but believed to have lost something instead.

The Ryougi family attempted to create human beings that exceeded normal humans, and to accomplish this, they trained their children in various martial arts and fencing, and also made them split their personalities. They believed that by using this method, one personality could be an expert in one subject while the other could be a master of other subjects. Shiki was no exception to this, and she had a masculine and feminine side that switched places with each other.

After having woken up from the accident, Shiki believed that her masculine personality side had died during the accident. Instead she tried to supplement the spiritually dead Shiki's personality by her masculine tone.
