Playlist - 9th December 2008

by Dhumahn » Tue Dec 02, 2008 11:16 pm

Getting an applause from the end of Code Geass was something rare and special....

This weeks playlist is as follows:

Soul Eater 5 (vote)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann 5 (vote)
Bounen No Xamdou 5 (vote)
Kurenai 11/12 (final)
Shigofumi 11/12 (final)
Baccano 11

MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!!!!!

At the conclusion of this meeting, I will be posting the official AJAS 2008 Poll list. If you wish to send your votes in before then, feel free to pm me and I'll send you a copy of the list, so that you can vote.

For those who do not regularly attend the forums, I will also have some hard copies available at the 9/12 and 16/12 meetings (however this does not mean that you can vote twice, as I will be checking :p ).

....enjoy :)

Good to hear Garry found the place this time. I notice Bazza was absent.

Well, applause at AJAS is rare. But we give it when we, in a majority or unanimously, like a series and appreciate its existence. Code Geass is a 'once in a decade' kind of series. It certainly stimulated a mini-universe worth of threads, discussion, heated debating and passionate defense of the likes I haven't ever seen. Now that it's over, I don't see any currently running series having the effect it had on anime communities. Code Geass revitalised my interest in anime and then some. Very few series give me the feeling of 'watch it all or get hold of the next episode ASAP at all costs.' Code Geass is one of a special five that had me craving the next episode and thinking about it heavily each day while waiting.

Well we were at the hospital across the road for most of the day... by the end of it I just didn't feel like going.

Resident tank enthusiast. See me for racist and opinionated storytelling and vaguely accurate historical tank warfare-themed rants.

Be at the meeting, sit through the show, and we vote at the end of the episode. That's it.

Note the enthusiasm. 8)
Vote always occurs at the end of said fifth episode.
Any bets this time round as to what survives?

You just seemed to be looking forward to it a bit much.

Anyways, I don't really care which way votes go. People can slam shows as much as they like, but it leaves the pool of replacements that much smaller. :)

It annoys me, yes, but it ultimately makes no difference. I like Baccano, and I'm surprised it survived the vote. Well, survived inasmuch as it stayed on because of the rules of the vote. The rule in question being: if the vote is 50/50, those running AJAS vote in favour of the show because of the frustration of choosing a replacement.

I like Yami to Boushi no Hon no Tabibito. It did not survive the vote. Can't really do anything about that.

The ending to the anime series is utterly twisted.

Hastumi is in love with Jiru (both females), time travelling begins to prevent Jiru's death, then at the end Jiru sends her a message to say she's Hatsumi's daughter...

I think you have your characters mixed up. Hazuki was in love with Hatsumi, who is, in fact, Eve, one of the two librarians in the Great Library (the other being Eve's sister, Lillith). Jiru (Jill) was one of Eve's personas within another book, the one who took care of Gargantua and Ritsuko when they were children.
And yes, Eve gives Hazuki the mother of all lesbian blueballs at the end of the series by telling her that she will, one day, be her daughter, and promptly sends Hazuki back to her own world. Chalk up another of anime's many failed lesbian relationships.

Thanks for clearing that up. Been a while since I watt I got the important part right. :P
As for lesbian relationships that don't fail, is there actually any examples other than Kashimashi?

Candy Boy
Simoun
Strawberry Panic
Lyrical Nanoha
Koihime Musou
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Mnemosyne
Kannazuki no Miko (ultimately)
Mai-Otome
Hidamari Sketch
Seraphim Call
Adolescence of Utena

Mind you, titles in this list also have yuri relationships that do fail, mostly because of the ones that don't.

Think it was the following:

12-4 to keep Soul Eater on.
8-5 to keep Tengen Toppen Guren Lagann on.
15-0 to keep Bounen no Xamdou on.
