Here comes the food crisis

by Last Exile » Tue Jun 17, 2008 1:58 am

The 'Food Bowl' in America is currently underwater. What isn't has contaminated tomatos and lettuce.
China's major farming district is flooded.
North Korea's areas got hammered too.

Expect food problems of all kinds incoming soon. The world was already having supply problems before these events. Along with water and energy, this is turning into a trigger for global instability.

I hate delays in my post (all my DVD's come from Iowa).

Well it's a good job Americans don't eat vegetables then!
Mel Gibson's remake of The Life of Brian is nowhere near as funny as the original.

Bring on the apocalypse!

I'm sure Australia could at least avoid a total catastrophe by cutting off all foodstuff exports. A blob of land as big as us surely can provide enough food to support itself.

except that most of it is desert. We'll need one or more of the following to be self-sufficient, food-wise:
-massive increase in rainfall
-massive desalination plants
-massive overhaul of the stormwater systems (to collect the water instead of letting it go out to sea)
-massive spending on reclaiming water from sewerage
-massive irrigation system
-massive population reduction
