Most of the shows that interest me are not big sellers in their home country, and air some time around 3am, so very few people actually see them there. In essence, most shows are the product of a specialist industry.

Mainstream shows, conversely, are pretty much unwatchable pap, and most are unmarketable outside Japan. Unless they include ninja brats, bendy pirates, adults playing cards with kids, collectible widget creatures or practically unkillable dead people.

Not a situation that is solved by giving them all to a subscription streaming service.... ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE STATES.

Feh.... Any company, here, could set up the same thing if they wanted to. Crunchyroll was a pretty small operation. And we, here in Adelaide, are only half an hour ahead of Japan. (An hour and a half during Summer time). For all intents and purposes, direct streaming from Japan would be a workable concept.... We'd even be watching it WHEN THEY DO.

There just aren't enough people to make it financially viable, that's all. And that'll always be the death of it in Australia.

That's why there's things like KeyholeTV (which is done through the Japanese Government btw), so we CAN watch stuff live....at 3am and such...

And it needs to be fairly fast too, 512k doesn't quite cut it (I can do it, but is glitches and lags a bit).

That article completely contradicts what the three chicks on ANN said two weeks ago in their column. Anime is mainstream....anime is homogenised...streaming is a solution....get your heads out of the sand, Casey Brienza and Bamboo Dong!

I'd just like to say that I misread the address in the link as "japanties" instead of "japantimes". One letter makes a lot of difference!
Mel Gibson's remake of The Life of Brian is nowhere near as funny as the original.
