THE SPRING 2010 THREAD

by Last Exile » Sun Dec 13, 2009 3:23 pm

Discussion dedicated to April 2010 series.

And it seems we have an early contender for something special - Arakawa Under The Bridge.

This looks brilliant.

THE SPRING 2010 THREAD

by GarryGod » Sun Dec 13, 2009 8:21 pm

well lets add the list shall we...

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou
Image
Based on Mizuki Shoutarou's Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou magical fantasy romance novel series. The story of "love, magic, and battles" revolves around Akuto Sai, a boy who aims to become part of his country's highest order of magicians and contribute to society as one of its clergy. On the day he is admitted into the Constan Magical Academy, his aptitude test predicts the following: "Future Occupation … Devil King." Thus begins his difficult school life in which he is resented by his studious female class head, desired by a girl with mysterious powers, and guarded by a beautiful female android. -in otherwords ART8SIMS material-

Giant Killing
Image
* Based on a seinen manga by Tsunamoto Masaya and Tsujitomo serialised in Weekly Morning.
In Giants Killing a ragtag bunch from East Tokyo are struggling in Japan's top football league. The team is going through an abysmal spell right now where they are nearing the bottom of the table and have lost 5 matches in a row. The loses haven't done much to team moral, because it was already low. Fan support, on the other hand, is looking bleak. In the world of football, once the fans turn on a team the end is near. Teams don't recover. Coaches are fired, players are sold, and teams drop to smaller divisions where profits often prevent them from ever being successful against even mediocre top division programs. East Tokyo United, ETU, can only blame their coach right now. And Coach is ready to give up this next game to prove to his team and fans, that against the biggest club in the nation he can make this team win. -Studio Deen WWHHYY!!!

Working!!
Image
Adaptation of Karino Takatsu's Working!! four-panel manga. The story is set in a family restaurant named Wagnaria in the northern Japanese prefecture of Hokkaido. Souta works part-time among the restaurant's high-spirited, mysterious, yet cool staffers. - i am not sure whats working but its got my approval of decentcy

the rest is MAJOR 6th season? wow and some movies like conan and TRIGUN woop! but its still not as epic as last april. this year...

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou

episode 1 hmm started off slow and simple got some character and plot then you get to the part were there future is predicted and the main character's popularity level hits the roof!!! the fact everyone fears him and wants to destroy him followed by a harem of magick girls following in his war path its not a bad anime about magick and low level ecchi decent CGI some nice explosions i would'nt be suprised if ARTA8SIMS enjoys this one its his kinda ball game so to speak...

B Gata H Kei might just make Queen's Blade look good in comparison. O_O (I want to F U C K ! ! ! 100 virgin guys...SPROING! AOO-GAH! *cough*)
Angel Beats might make E8 look good in comparison. O_O (Fail outsourcing to Korea to boot! Anyone thinking KyoAni paid these guys off to re-install faith in the Haruhi franchise? I honestly thought Key wouldn't let one of their titles get mangled like this)
Kaichou wa Maid-Sama makes almost any shoujo romances look good in comparison. O_O (This rips off Kare Kano and other shoujo romance series so shamelessly it's appalling)
Ikkitousen 4th season makes other fanservice shows look good in comparison. O_O (At least they learnt how to draw, finally)
Working! makes most other shows look good in comparison. O_O (And I've seen H-titles with better maids, to boot)
Ironman makes the 60s animations look pro in comparison. O_O (Seriously, a shot of Spiderman or Adam West+Burt Ward era Batman utterly destroys this)

I think we're really in trouble.....TO THE BATMOBILE!

They are not Korean, they do the work in Japan still, so I'm not sure where you're getting at here :?

Last Exile wrote:Ikkitousen 4th season makes other fanservice shows look good in comparison. O_O (At least they learnt how to draw, finally)

That's because they switched animation studio's for this series....again....

Series 1 was animated by J.C. Staff
Dragon Destiny and Great Guardians were animated by studio Arms (they've done work for stuff like Genshiken 2, Kite/Kite Liberator, Himawari!/!! and a whole bunch of H-titles)
Xtreme Xecutor is animated by TNK, and they've done some rather interesting stuff (like UFO Princess Valkyrie, I My Me Strawberry Eggs, School Days and Hand Maid May)
So this might explain the differences in look.

It was established during the credits of Angel Beats that part of the animation had been done in Korea via outsourcing. For the quality of animation to be so varied in Episode 1, when one still has all the budget and time to spare, is pretty pathetic. Key pride themselves on their look and usually only trust someone who can do their product visual justice at the very least. P.A. Works were pretty shocking in what they've done so far.

In all seriousness, Greg, was there anything you would put on the playlist from what has aired so far?

That said, I am going to follow Angel Beats. It was the only thing I had any hope for to start with. I might as well see it through. Having enough balls to be so blutig to its leads and combining the wacky stuff it does - have to give it credit for trying to be outside of the norm.

Well, technically if you watched the first episode you actually watched 9 episodes, so you've given it enough of a go.

Hmm, now then....

I think I drew better backgorund animation when I was 5.
The chick sounds like a guy. (And no wonder. She previously voiced The Major, Alphard and Lunamaria Hawke)
That wasn't humour.
The guy is a douche.
I think we came up with more plausible dialogue in the Story Game.
The amount of staticness is just creepy.
The grass seems to take up more focus than anything.
I'm struggling to find any form of development or substance in that episode.
I pity the guy who dressed as the Kappa IRL.
There was music?
I think they spent more money on the IRL Kappa advert than the episode itself.

How the F U C K ! ! ! does this have a rating of 8.23 on AniDB? (Correction - 8.06 after I voted. Hint: You can help change this more!)

In summation, every fear I had about Shaft and the industry has been confirmed with this. You don't have to try anymore. You don't need a budget anymore. You don't need to have talent anymore. All you need to do is be an EFFING TROLL! :x

Yet, somehow I felt more trolled by the OP to K-ON!! that the Arakawa episode.... *bonk* Good to see I'm not the only one!

I think we have an official theme for April - trolling. -_-

WTB noitaminA subs and Ultimate Project subs ASAP!

You know, it's a good thing you mentioned the Doves last night, Mappy. Because 'Lost Souls' seems to perfectly describe this Shinbo phenomenon. Too many 'Lost Souls' permanently falling under his spell.

Well franky, I've only watched two shows as they were the only two I had any interest in from reading Chartfag's descriptions: Working! and Heroman. So for now, I'll just give my take on those.

Heroman: Stan Lee + Tetsujin-28go + Bones. The Tetsujin comparison fits particularly well on account of Joey being almost as hot as Shotaro. Almost. So far it's been uncompromisingly simple, and that's somewhat refreshing. It's not trying to be particularly deep or nerd-pandering. It's just a show about a kid and his big robot buddy punching things IN AMERICA.

Working!: Yes neither the characters nor the premise nor even the art style are particularly special. However, what grabbed me was the slickness of its delivery. No awkward pauses, no drawn-out tsukommis and even the sillier reactionary moments had a downplayed approach that's rather uncommon for Japanese comedy. Plus it has Jun Fukuyama, and he's always delightful.

Last Exile wrote:Give the man a Gundam!

While I am undoubtedly a fan of the franchise, there are actually very few gundams (as in the mobile suits with the name) that I like. Really only the Zeta, F91, V2 and Turn A (and if we include obscure as hell supplementary materials, the Le Cygne on account of it looking more like a Dragonar). Otherwise, it's all about the monoeyes. Unless Bandai start releasing some Zanscare merch.
Although I don’t know about the directions at 4:51.

House of Five Leaves has started. Weird thing is, Funimation has already licensed it. License right when it starts airing? How unlike them.....

Well, the manga was done by the same guy who did Ristorante Paradiso. I don't think quality or maturity was ever in doubt. The art style will be a mountain for some but a hook for others. Nice to see manglobe do a strong option versus the cheap cash-ins they were doing in 2009.
