So, what have people made of it so far? I'm about halfway through so far.

Being a fan of Gir from Invader Zim, i can't help but love this series just because of Pino.

Resident tank enthusiast. See me for racist and opinionated storytelling and vaguely accurate historical tank warfare-themed rants.

The parts of this anime that seem to be confusing are usually the battles between Proxies. They left me sitting there going "When the hell did this happen? How the hell did it happen?" and it usually gets explained at the end of the episode.

Those strange episodes are some of the best imho.... The gameshow episode, the one with the multiple Reals and Vincents and the Pino-centric one were great. It breaks the monotony of what is a very murky, grey show.

Mappy's right, the series is grey. It's like that artist forgot to buy colour before making the show. If i was to turn the light on in the lecture theatre you probably wouldn't be able to see anything.

It's a series based on tyranny, the apocalypse, the death of the human spirit, raison d'etre. And you blutig expect to be colourful?

It's grey because it's a dark series. If you want a colourful series get comedy or ecchi.

But colour would add a beautiful touch of irony to the series, like Higurashi having cute psychotic gils murdering people and flowers in the opening credits.

Irony is not the point of the series though. This is not meant to be an ironic series. This is not Hirugashi.

This is a series that destroys every hope, dream, illusion and misconception you ever dared to have. Because it's too close to reality and where we are going.

It does echo the tyrranical nightmares described in 1984, Brave New World and Fahrnenheit 451.

There is a whole genre of series that I dare to call "grey shows", where they seem to have forgotten the concept of a colour palette. Witch Hunter Robin, Wolf's Rain, Gilgamesh, Texhnolyze etc all belong in this category. Ergo Proxy is simply the latest (and one of the murkiest) additions. So dark, sometimes, you can't even see what is going on, unless you have a super hi-res version, which I don't.

My synopsis for the AVCon brochure, pointing this out, was meant to be taking the piss, and I didn't expect them to actually use it. They were either running out of time for printing it out or someone thought it worth keeping. 8)

Grey anime is one of my favourite kinds. The shows that Mappy has listed, that I have seen, are all at the top of my favourites list.

My other faves are Traditional and Fantasy.

I watched the first 8 or so episodes and liked it but haven't had the time to pick it back up. Holidays are coming up I'll definitely watch more then.

I suppose one could count Haibane Renmei as a "grey" show since it went for that subdued, realistic look. Still one of my favourite shows ever in a way many of the other shows I've mentioned aren't so much.... Probably the difference between a show the producers and animators have enjoyed working on, and a show that they worked on because it was simply another job.

in some other sense the show's abit more fleshed out than some other shows that the club has screened .. (ie wolf's rain , witch hunter robin)

i somehow find it very amusing to see humans degen into incapacity ... . . .

i want a place in tht world since its so easy to take over .

That's funny, it reminds me of that, too, even though I have no idea what you're talking about. 8)

It's the deepest anime I've watched in a long time, possibly ever.

EDIT: I have been informed that Ergo Proxy ends at episode 23, ne? I also heard about the nice juicy twist with Real. ^^

Finally finish watching it (quite belated ... seem to be slacking) , anyways I found the ending quite interesting . The issue i have with it is that its quite a sizable hole for "what if" business .

I'd been spoilered about Real before I'd seen the end. This show went off in directions that I didn't expect after the kind of start it had, so the ending didn't surprise me all that much, I have to say.
