LULZ, 4chan g0t h4x0r3d!11one

DO NOT SEND ANY SORT OF "PRIVATE" OR SECURE INFORMATION TO 4CHAN.ORG. CLEAR YOUR COOKIES AND DISCONTINUE BROWSING THE SITE IMMEDIATELY.

A redirect page has gone up on the [real] 4chan servers to point users to this blog. Individuals who have an outdated DNS cache will be bounced here. From this point forward, take anything you read on 4chan.org with a grain of salt (that's a bit ironic, isn't it?).

Couldn't have happened to nicer people.

Uh, whats a DNS cache by the way?

to put it extremely simply

The resolution process between a domain name and the IP address is cached, so when a website changes it's IP address, it often takes a few hours for the server to resolve the new IP....

In depth Wikipedia Article:

The most basic task of DNS is to translate hostnames to IP addresses. In very simple terms, it can be compared to a phone book. For example, if you want to know the internet address of en.wikipedia.org, DNS can tell you that it is 145.97.39.155.

Because of the huge volume of requests generated by a system like DNS, the designers wished to provide a mechanism to reduce the load on individual DNS servers. To this end, the DNS resolution process allows for caching (i.e. the local recording and subsequent consultation of the results of a DNS query) for a given period of time after a successful answer. How long a resolver caches a DNS response (i.e. how long a DNS response remains valid) is determined by a value called the time to live (TTL). The TTL is set by the administrator of the DNS server handing out the response. The period of validity may vary from just seconds to days or even weeks.

How do I clear my DNS cache? Or is it automatic?

Christe, you need a new thread over something you've already been told about in another? It isn't as if anything of any value was lost. 8)

Update (1:48:00 PM EST ~ 15/12/2007):

Glexia is in constant contact with Moot and other 4chan executives and [...] FBI to resolve this situation as soon as possible.

Irony much? :D

Hopefully I'll get my beloved 4chons back quick smart. 8)

edit: zip and orz are now back online. img and cgi remain offline however.

You can figure out how to get there yourself, like I did. :P

For a brief period of time there was hope for the internet...

What, with 12chan, 420chan and 7chan still up and running? Don't bet on it.

Yes yes, I know, 7chan barely runs at the best of times....

Well, there was the hope that they would follow into oblivion.

Just because their avenues of expression cease to exist won't change the fact there are people who are broken in the head in this world. They'd just move from the interbutts to the real world. Just thought I'd leave you with that positive thought. 8)

It would make it easier to track them down and "fix" their problems.
