The decay of modern society.

by Bazza » Thu Nov 15, 2007 10:56 am

Recieved this 'txt' this morning. Copypasta'd from my phone.

Message title: Telstra Thx.

Message body: Thx for being Pre-Paid :-) Get 25 mins FREE calls 4 recharging $50 or more. End 29 NOV 07. Go 2 telstra.com/25min for T&C's. 2 optout out Mktg 1800039059

Two worrying things.

    -Telstra makes messages like this
-A good percentage of their customers can understand it.

What the hell is an Mktg? :?

Resident tank enthusiast. See me for racist and opinionated storytelling and vaguely accurate historical tank warfare-themed rants.

These kind of messages are written by illiterate morons for illiterate morons. Go bomb a telecommunications company, or something. It helps silence the voices in your head for a while. 8)

Actually if you do this to Telstra, you'll be more or less helping reaching its goal for a full sell out. Don't think Sol would disapprove of this tactic.

But you can just exit them and they do at least contain legible english. What I hate is their infernal habit of marking said messages "Urgent".

Yes, moile phones are in desperate need of them. 8)

Well, Sol could always disappear, along with the Telstra main office when someone does something that would cause alarms to go off in certain federal security departments if I even dare so much as write it explicitly. Then they wouldn't have to pay that wage bill after all.

I like ice cream.

There is a certain irony to those messages written in AOL speech when you consider that the person writing the message probably had the messages contents in clear, well written english in front of them.

Clear, well-written English? In a corporate memo? Intelligence and knowledge are two things these companies are not looking for in their employees.
