Ribena = Liquid junk

by Last Exile » Thu Mar 22, 2007 11:49 pm

The makers of Ribena embarassingly admitted today their product:

- Doesn't contain 4 times the Vitamin C of orange juice. Blackcurrants certinaly have 4 times the Vitamin C of oranges but no in the Ribena case.
- Has more sugar in it than Coca-Cola
- The blackcurrant content is only 5% and is then only a sugar syrup concentrate.
- Are currently facing 80 counts of misleading the public in New Zealand.

HA.

Amazing how easy it is to fool people that can't be bothered reading a label.

Even moreso that they couldn't actually taste the truth of what they were drinking. "Wow, I'm glad this has four times the vitamin C of orange juice, because my teeth are falling out from the sugar". Bzzzzt. Wrong.

The pH of such drinks is in the range of 2.3-3.5. That's quite acidic considering stomach acid is only just below 2.

Coke contains phosphoric acid. They use that to clean near-immovable gunk buildup from roof tiles. Is it any wonder that some coin-collectors recommend Coke as a cheap cleaning agent for dirty coins?

Coke was recommended to me as a cheap cleaning agent for my Warhamster minis . Effective against painted metals and painted plastics .

Too bad i didn't experiment .

I figured that out in Year 9. The moment I did, I gave it up for good. It's amazing how many people refuse to believe Coke contains that.

For number referencing, phosphoric acid is 338. The common 330 food acid is citric acid, which is apparently carcinogenic if overconsumed. Problem is, it's used as a preservative in almost anything.

Isn't it very hard to over consume it though? I actually have a citric acid and zinc deficiency and I live on all the things containing large amounts and take supplements and still can't beat the deficiency.

Maybe they've toned down the amounts in there, finally. In the 90s there was a major problem regarding 330 and the amounts present in foodstuffs and drinks.

I guess it's like a lot of these trace elements - too little or too much are both bad.

Btw, how does one have a citric acid deficiency? Zinc, I can understand, but citric acid?
