I don't know what is worse: that there were people so mindlessly banal in thought and beliefs that they would come up with this monumentally brain-dead idea, or that there are people so mindlessly banal in thought and beliefs that they thought this was even worth reporting as a news story.

There are even worse stories than this one, this is the tip of the iceberg.

It's a good thing the world ends in 2012. Otherwise we might have a problem on our hands, with the decrease in the mean IQ of the global population. 8)

Resident tank enthusiast. See me for racist and opinionated storytelling and vaguely accurate historical tank warfare-themed rants.

don't worry, there's a way of fixing that...
/me would not be happy if the world ends in 2012, that'd give him less than 5 years of use for his 5 years of uni

I'd thought this would happen first in the UK , where they tried making Christmas "politically correct" .

I now have a Santa-hat with the words "Ho. Ho. Ho." written across the front. Got it free from work because it was a product recall (something about wire in the hat, which we took out).

This confirms my theory that the media is a big game of Chinese whispers... the first report I heard said that they didn't say why they were encouraging Santas to say "ha ha ha", later reports said it was because "ho ho ho" frightens children, others said it was derogatory to women... now they're combining both into one report!

I bet in reality there is no ban and somebody at the workshop just said "he he he".
Mel Gibson's remake of The Life of Brian is nowhere near as funny as the original.
