NIS America Warning of Mail Fraud Though Check Scam

NIS America has posted a warning on its homepage relating to a recent mail fraud scam involving hot checks being drawn out in its name as a part of the Publisher’s Clearinghouse sweepstakes.

The media publisher’s name is featured on the fraudulent checks as the payer of the amount written on the checks. As the company does not participate in such promotional activity, its requesting the help of any and all who receive such letters to report them to the proper authorities and to the publisher.

“PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE” MAIL FRAUD WARNING
NIS America has recently been informed of a “Publishers Clearing House” mail fraud scam. Recipients receive a letter notifying them that they have been selected as a winner in the “Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.” Enclosed with the letter is a check for $1000.00, which may vary. The check indicates the payer as “NIS America, Inc.” and the bank as “Bank of the West,” which also may both vary.

This is not a valid NIS America check and we request that all recipients either bring the fraudulent check to the attention of their bank’s fraud department or dispose of the check. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CASH OR DEPOSIT THIS CHECK! NIS America does not support any lotteries, sweepstakes, or contests that award cash or check prizes resembling the letter described above. We also ask that any recipients of this mail fraud please send a copy of their letter and check to NIS America, Inc. using one of the following:

NIS America has already reported this scam to the bank on which these counterfeit checks were drawn for further investigation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support group at [email protected] or call us at 714‐540‐1122.
