I've only read a couple of chapters of this. They even target players of MMORPOGs, which probably puts that phenomenon at the bottom of the otaku rankings.

MMORPGs pay themselves out every 5 minutes. If you play one of them and can't enjoy taking the piss out of it, there's something seriously wrong with you. I love people paying them out, it makes for great entertainment.

Volume 1 arrived on Friday. Can't afford it yet though.

Are we talking self-depreciation/self-humiliation depressing or Saikano depressing?

If you read this manga, chances are your already in one of the subcultures it's taking the piss out of. From mmorpgs, anime fandom and in Madman's case, minderjährigen mädchen, this manga targets everybody and makes you feel that little bit more pathetic. So it would fall under the "self-depreciation/self-humiliation" depressing. Saikano needed a heavy dose of Prozac, especially with the "Love Story Killed" side story. I swear, the Japanese entertainment industry got a hold of Romeo and Juliet and decided to make Shakespearean Tragedy the default model for a lot of their love stories.

Should I point out that this argument is facetious in light of all that has gone before in this thread? And that the world is full of ignorant people? And that they choose, for their own selfish reasons, to coexist? Or should I just leave this as the usual, witty Tarrant/Mendes banter that we've come to expect? 8)

You ever heard of that Ben Folds song 'There's Always Someone That Is Cooler Than You'?

After reading Volume 1, I couldn't stop laughing and I felt like writing a song called 'There's Always Someone That Is Sadder Than You'.

PS. I find it amusing in this topic thread, Seven calls 'Welcome to the NHK' cool then slams it in the current reading topic.

This makes as much sense to me as when the hamburger told me to buy a pink corset and waltz through Rundle Mall carrying a box of tissues.

What is there to handle?! This is no different than what I've read about on anime forums or is already prevalent in the industry. If this makes you feel guilty about yourself or beings your conscience into conflict, then I'd say Welcome to the NHK is doing its job.

I must be sad in that I genuinely enjoy reading about a collection of people whose lives are just totally fornicated. It probably helps to be in complete denial about your own shortcomings, though.
