Hirugashi renamed When They Cry

by Last Exile » Mon Jun 25, 2007 10:23 pm

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/ ... -cry/dvd-1

1. That's the English name. Complete removal of the cicada reference in the title, why?

2. See, I'm not the only one who was reminded partly of Elfen Lied when I first saw Hirugashi, White. There are some common basics.

you are a bit behind..i saw the english 'when they cry' DVD1 couple of weeks ago- its very good!. maybe more importantly, why the reference to cicadas in the first place, as i can see no relevence to the series at all?maybe the english translators thought it made more sense to leave it out.

Okay, I'll admit that they both involve having cute anime girls turn into violet killers. That doesn't mean that a proper comparison can be made as you usually need more than one common point.
Dhumahn will be happy as the dvd released is uncensored and you get to witness the violent glory.

The reference to cicadas in the title is an obscure usage of Japanese to refer to something that makes a shrill sound that is disturbing, in other words a particular kind of cicada which isn't pleasant to listen to and has been known to drive people mad.

On a side note, the second series starts on the 7th of July. Not long, now....

This is more likely what you are waiting for.

On a similar note, is there some unholy collusion at play in that the second series of Higurashi starts roughly around the same time as this?

The problem is that I will most likely end up with both of these (however SD is a definite DVD purchase, as I always have a soft spot for anything made by TNK).

For someone who hates 'predictable' anime, Elfen Lied falls more in place of a Superhuman project, it more or less draws more in comparsion to Xenosaga, X-men and that type of ilk.

This is a disasterous comparsion and btw protoculture addicts isnt a good magazine to quote from. Complaining about reviewers and then quoting from the most shittest anime magazine. Higurashi is more of a comparsion to Silent Hill, for such a Reviewer to miss an obvivous reference sitting in front of him...

What the blutig hell is Silent Hill?

I was illustrating there were some minor similarities between the two series. That was all.

Elfen Lied is one of only three animes I ever found not to be utterly predictable. The other two were Last Exile and Fullmetal Alchemist. Hence they're my top three.

Exile... silent hill is... a very, very, very scary place featured in a game series and in a movie...

to be more concise; according to wikipedia, "Silent Hill is the title of a survival horror video game franchise, produced by Konami and developed by Team Silent." but yes, in one of those games not sure which one of the series, think empty fairground with blutig bunny mascots scattered around.... ( yes with people in those costumes) and a girl on her own ( from what ive played so far.. didnt play it much...) I felt it was similar to BloodRayne in a way...

more information to be found in wikipedia- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Hill

Pretty much. Even as someone who has never played the game (Atory would say "never has played any" ) I know what Silent Hill is, and basically what it is about. It just surprised me that, with a game franchise such as this, there would be someone who wouldn't....

Yeah... I only played the game briefly, but I knew before I even owned a game about slient hill being one damn scary game... I just didnt like the fact that it was so dark in the game... harder to see more than 10 metres or so from the character.... so yeah I do remember the blutig pink bunnies... and being creepied out by that because I was expecting them to jump... XD

P.S:
its not the fear, its just the environment, im used to having things jump out at the character, not just... stand still, or there to be so many pink bunny costumes... I even learnt not to play BloodRayne in a pitch black room..... out of higher sense of alertness after playing a hour or two into the game....

I don't know why you'd be confused. You said, on Tuesday, that I never play anything at UniSAGA, despite it being a gamers club (even though I do). Unless, of course, you've hit exam study amnesia.

Not enough minderjährigen mädchen, probably.

Oh now I understand... I thought you were saying I haven't played the games, not that you don't play games.

What I meant on Tuesday was more along the lines that you don't seem interested in many of the games at UniSAGA. You do join in the card games quite frequently.

I'm not really interested in the tactical games Jim brings along, and playing most of the console games would just expose my total lack of hand/eye coordination through the power of spaz.... 8)

I don't mind watching others play the consoles, though.

Actually RE4 had a minderjährigen mädchen, presdients daughter name Ashely a ripe age of 14 with well sized breasts. RE2 had a minderjährigen mädchen but was too young to look at. Now you know why RE4 is a favourite XD.

Why "actually"? I was talking about Silent Hill lacking minderjährigen mädchen in comparison to Resident Evil, ergo Madman is likely to gravitate towards RE. You just helped to prove my point.
