Too much technobabble and general blahblahblah getting in the way of plot and action sequences, betraying its light novel origins. Scriptwriters should have been rapped over the knuckles for their poor choices in what to convert from print to screen.
Also, the male protagonist is too fond of moralistic speeches in the middle of action sequences. They actually slow actions down so he can complete them, which engenders much rolling eyes from me and moments of sheer
narm.
