Their website doesn't appear to lead anywhere at all and their email address is at a .info location, which also doesn't happen to exist. Can you see where this has lead for their account?

Scragged another one before that one, who decided to use the ingenious handle of PEguruST....

I wanted to delete them even before I knew they were a spammer. 8)

We have a new one to mull over "Domedesgh8", email address is [email protected] and their ip doesn't trace back to an Australian hosting company, not that i can tell anyway.

If they ain't local, and nobody here obviously knows who they are, then you have to ask the question: "why are they here?" To which the answer will almost always be: "not for anything good, that's for sure".

They now have the official rank of "Potential Spammer". Unless they prove otherwise, a potential spammer they shall always be. Well, do you know anyone from the Dominican Republic? 8)

I have unilaterally decided that an ip address is not a valid location for one to have in their profile. Apart from the above user, there have been two other subscriptions to the forum using this tactic, both of which seem to originate from the same ip address, and both using suspect email addresses (one from Russia). So all three have been dispatched. :)

Any valid users who use ip addresses as their location and are deleted by me can forward their complaints to my recycle bin. I'm not really in the mood for this crapspammer bastardry. :P

Mappy I setup the forum to put their location as the IP they registered from.

It a feature hint hint :D

What's the code to display IP Addresses? I've been looking for this for a while now.

Whoops. :P

Wish I knew that beforehand. Then I wouldn't have used that as an excuse as I deleted their accounts. I would have said something along the lines of "looked up the ips and found bots behind them". Or something else equally lame. 8)

Now excuse me.... I have a desk to smash my head against waiting for me.

Here we go I've improved my MOD quite alot now.
"Location" now contains '##, #### <IP>' where '##' is two byte country code, '####' is the country name and 'IP' is well the IP address. :D

And have packaged it up into a neat little MOD here, extract it to phpBB's inculdes dir.
The country lookup API I'm using is from http://www.maxmind.com/app/php
The GeoLite Country 'GeoIP.dat' file can be updated from http://www.maxmind.com/app/geoip_country

The GeoLite City can also be used, But currently I don't see the need for it and it is alot bigger at 17.7MB vs 640KB.

Don't be afraid to use the Geolite City on the AJAS forum. I think we have enough space to handle a 17.7mb file.
