Absolutely. Are you in contact with any Malaysian anime fans?

In contact with Anime fans in Malaysia isn't too much of a problem ... after all , its so big that any person you would accidentally step on would be one .

But really after Comic Festa (last Dec 2006, the local Con) I would rather have a lower profile that associate with readily available naivety .

It wasn't just bad , it was really really bad . Unless you're into costumed people .

Picture this ... AVCON vendor's hall + gaming hall + theatre 1 (for an estimate of space without furniture)

Followed by ... 5 ppl per 4sqm (2x2 tile with 1.25 person) , fairly crowded big room

And finally ... out of those 5 ppl , 3 are costumed otakus . Literally speaking there were that many costumes (60% rough guess).

For some reason I feel a shiver of dread run down my spine when I read "costumed otakus".

You have my deepest sympathies Paul.

Forget getting a photo of their costume, at that range you'd be lucky if you could get their entire clevage in the photo.

After finding out what age most Malaysian cosplayers are... I've been turned off. Madman would like it!

COMIC FESTA 2006

by Psike81 » Fri Jan 19, 2007 11:28 pm

Thanks Brian , or else it would be waiting forever for my cousin to pass the pics . Because with that , I was going to write my review . Here goes ... (multi parts)

Comic Festa as the local convention for Anime , Manga and such is held over a weekend during the month long school holidays in Dec . So being semi-permanently back , I decided to take a trip down to investigate it ...

Venue :
There isn't a fixed venue to which the convention can rely on year after year like most places . So this year the location was in the assembly hall of a private school .
Problem 1 , Malaysian planners are dumb people ... and so was the organizing committee . The school was in an obscure location smack in the middle of an industrial estate . Honestly it wasn't hard to find . Sadly as much as I was curious I then didn't want to find it .

Entry :
Cost for ticket RM8 (one day) ... in Oz terms ~$3.50 . Dirt cheap yeah ? Well , this is what I could scan assess and understand the value of that RM8 ... ready ...
Entry tix with event title and stamp mark (like clubs)
No showbag
No coupon
T-shirt for extra cost
No program book
No map
Heck not even anything useful !

Event :
This is the first Con I've been , of course its been held previously and its popularity keeps on growing . Having come from AVCON which despite its flaws I can congratulate its serious efforts to at least keep people occupied with various events .
I came in at 3.30 ; alot later than I thought and by my own transport (a Hyundai) ...
Time I left 4.30 .

COMIC FESTA 2006 pt2

by Psike81 » Tue Jan 23, 2007 1:02 am

From the entrance to the stage its not really alot going on and going for . Of all the stalls that were setup there was the Singapore Cosplay Club (couldn't tell between all the other cosplayers), 1 semi-legit material retailer and the rest were

a: Independent illustrators (with some being as sophisticated as running a live tablet demo)
b: Independent plagiarising illustrators (covered end to end with printed merchandise of the popular title of the day ie Bleach)

3 aisles of it all and nothing noteworthy . Negative trend of a rant ? Like I said , it only held 1hr of my attention . Which 1/2 hr was actually waiting on my cousin sister to meet up .

Across from the entrance like any school hall , is a stage . 2 MCs with a participating audience and giving out quizzes and some token prizes . Good MCs will always be of great help for keeping audiences , but could it save the show from sinking in my oceans of criticisms ?... HELL NO

So abit past 4pm was the end of the stage show to which thanks for participating but "we've got nothing else for you" . And to make sure you leave faster ... .. . we'll screen "CITY HUNTER" !!!

(pt 3 to conclude)

That looks surprisingly like the vehicle Jim and I ran into with the Starwagon back in 2002. At least, what was left after the bullbar was finished with it. 8)
