2006 AFL Grand Final

by Bazza » Mon Sep 25, 2006 9:08 am

Sydney or West Coast? :D

I'm goin West Coast, since I'd much rather have a fellow ignordian win as opposed to those snobbish eastern seaboarders. :P

This is a tough one as I really don't care all that much who wins the Grand Final if the Crows are out, as long as they aren't Victorian. Which, of course, ceased to be a concern weeks ago. 8)

At a stretch, the Eagles.

West Coast.

1. Sydney won last year.
2. They beat us so they'd better beat blutig Sydney.
3. If Chriss Judd never wins a premiership, it'll be a complete and utter tragedy.

From what I understand, the team that wins the saturday semi-final is the team that usually wins the grand final, so I'm going to guess West Coast are going to win.

West Coast.

Gets the AFL cup as far away from Victoria as possible.

Sydney also were once the South Melbourne Bloods. There's another reason to go for West Coast.

They were the South Melbourne Swans back in the day, weren't they?

Melbourne has too many AFL teams. That's why there hasn't been (and this year won't change things) a Victorian side winning the premiership this century. All the $$$ and support is spread too thinly across 10 sides, but its what they get for turning the old VFL into a national league. Most of the Melbourne teams have no greater a history than those in the SANFL and the WAFL. Indeed, both Port Adelaide (Magpies) and Norwood are older than all the Victorian AFL sides....

I thought they were the Bloods. At last year's medal presentation, when Brett Kirk got his medal he yelled 'For the Bloods!' which a couple of other people mimicked as well.

From my memory, they were the Swans.... I'm not sure where the Bloods name might have come into it. There are only two Aussie League teams I know of who have used that name, West Adelaide and North Hobart (before the Tasmanian side changed their name to the Robins, or something like that).

It could be a reference to their history of playing in the most blutig of matches. The 1944 Grand Final is always referred to as the bloodiest/most violent game ever played.

Probably because all the talented players were off fighting the war, leaving the talentless thugs behind. Which reminds me of the Collingwood veteran from the play and movie of The Club.... A man whose career was nothing short of a list of other players hospitalised....

The Club was an intriguing play. Probably the only legit artistic tale of the game.

David Williamson wasn't all that bad as a playwright once, back in the 60's and 70's when the high point of Australian culture was Bellbird. I'm sure Dog's Head Bay stopped that little career dead in its tracks.

And on the subject of Australian writers I don't like (which is pretty much all of them) don't mention Patrick White. If he wasn't dead already I'd have to devise evil plans to make sure he couldn't write anymore....

Those years of high school and university literature study have done some damage.... :x

I've always said: if you are a writer, sue every educational institution that puts your works on their syllabus. It's a great way to put people off from wanting to read your stuff ever again....

I just remember the movie "Blackadder: Back and Forth" with the golden line "This is for the next 400 years of english schoolchildren"*kick*

I thought of that too.

It is amusing that the coaches vote Simon Goodwin as equal best player with Adam Goodes for this year yet Goodes wins the Brownlow with Goodwin hardly getting any votes in that one. Unbiased umpires my arsch.

Yay. Now that its over we'll only have to put up with about 5 hours of AFL tv coverage a day, rather than double that. 8)
