Which one to get out of these two figures?

by Last Exile » Fri Aug 10, 2007 7:11 pm

Okay, in my figures collection, there's only one character I really want to find one for - Arcueid. Finally in the last couple of months, a couple have surfaced.

1/8 scale of Arcueid in her normal look

1/7 scale of a parallel universe version of Arcueid as the White Moon Princess

Frankly I'm leaning towards the 1/7 one. I've seen the incoming 1/8 on several sites on pre-order but this 1/7 one looks more like the Arcueid I know and like. The 1/8 one is a bit too tame and everyday. The 1/7 one has a nice touch, nice pose, nice face, good colours and a cool costume.

Thoughts?

The first one is the one I saw quiet a while ago. Also it is the one I prefer as it's more recognizable and I wouldn't be caught dead with the second one but it does seem your style.

If you really respect who Arucied is, you will take the 1st one.

Wow, to think White would come to my rescue...

Look, the problem with the 1/8 is that it's so...bland. I do want a normal look/normal dress one of Arcueid. But there's just nothing appealing about that figure or pose. Her face is expressionless and almost not there. Her arms just look incredibly awkward and almost pained. The hair looks inredibly rigid and a bit too big compared to what it normally is. And that skirt almost looks like it's riding up her side too much. And she just looks so stale? Where are the lethal rnails, the fire in her eyes, a bloodstain...anything? It's just so generic and such an awkward looking pose.

Whereas the 1/7 is just quite refreshing. Okay, it's not exactly true to Arcueid but slight alterations aren't that wrong. The lion version of Saber turned out to be a good one.

White, I can't get both. Did you happen to notice the cost?

Oh well, hopefully Bome does an Arcueid soon. He did a nice job on Rin and Saber.

Edit: Scott, is this harshness forthcoming because I'm not going to bring 'the artbook' to any meetings?

Who said anything about an artbook? Harshness? I think I should label when I'm being sarcastic.

'Wouldn't be caught dead with bu it seems your style' and 'If you really respect yourself'...those two kinda left me floored. :? You made it look criminal to consider getting the 1/7. :o

./sarcasm

Three little letters separate buy and die...

./end sarcasm

Yeah, I think I'm getting the 1/7. Even the guys on NFOs who are slightly leaning to the 1/8 themselves think the 1/7 is more in my style.

Myself owning over a $1000 worth of figurines, I can say that it's really up to the person as to what they purchase. I'd go with the 1/7 myself because the production quality looks to be higher than on the 1/8 and it's nice to see characters presented in a different manner. One of my favourite figurines is a Magical Cat-girl Rin. I need to wean myself off buying these figurines but I've just found out that they are going to be releasing 1/4 scale Haruhi figurines.

Also, Atory seeing as you are a member of the AJAS committee, you should be setting an example for how others are supposed to behave on the forum.

Thank you for providing a detailed and constructive argument, White.

You get exclusive viewing of the artbook on Tuesday.

Atory, if you're still ill like you were on Tuesday - go to bed.

If you read the visual novel of Tsukihime, you will know why I gave such answer. She transcended typical mahou shoujo. She is really a special character, and an awesome one.

She is trying her best not to be the Warucied, the version that you liked. That will be repudiation of all what she trying to fight against in her 900 year of life.

And the English translation is out anyway so you can read it. Good luck hunting for the CD though, it is tough to find.

I've seen the anime, I've read 4 volumes of the manga. I've read some of the game stuff. Look, Arcueid is one of my fave female characters of all time. But that 1/8 version is just painful. As for the 1/7, I don't see a typical magical girl in that.

I never thought of Tsukihime as a magic series, anyway. Only as a vampire series. Aren't Fate/Stay Night and Garden of Sinners the magic ones?

I just noticed something, Stormy. You weren't exactly leaping to my defense when we had a similar discussion on Saber. Yet with Arcueid you're on this in a flash.

If you think it's painful why are you even considering buying it then?

I wouldn't want something sitting around in my room that I considered painful.

It does look like a typical magical girl, so much so that pretty much all I'd have to do is replace the head and modify the clothing only slightly and it would look like some other figurines I have seen that are very magical girl.

I thought one of the tenets for being a magical girl was you has to be less than 18.

Doesn't that make Magical Cat-girl Rin not a Magical Girl then?

The Magical Cat Girl Ruby is another personality that did not belong to Rin. The wand was accidentally activated by Rin in her younger days, causing mayhem as she did unspeakable things as her mind was taken over by the wand's personality. This cat girl caused wholescale destruction and devious pranks which only stopped by Tohsaka's clan mentor, Marshall Zeltrech who was also present during the birth of Princess of Progenitors, Arucied Brunestud, 900 years ago.

Hence in Ataraxia, the wand developed childish hatred for Marshall Zeltrech.

Nah, it's all good, stormy. Arcueid is in my top 5 fave female characters in anime myself. I wouldn't want to get anything that would disrespect her. The neko version of her has been aroudn for 2-3 years and that white outfit is like a shorter version of her full length dress and it's got a positive expression which is how I always remembered her. I get loyalt and all that. Just that like White said, I think the normal/standard version of her could have a better pose and such so I will probably get the 1/7.
