Italian court hears about purported similarity between manga and crime

A prosecutor in an Italian hearing on a British student's murder asserted that there were similarities between manga found in a suspect's apartment and the crime scene. 21-year-old Meredith Kerscher was found partially unclothed with her throat cut in her Italian apartment on November 2, 2007, and police charged her roommate, 21-year-old American student Amanda Knox, with the crime. 21-year-old Ivory Coast drifter Rudy Guede and Knox's former boyfriend, 24-year-old computer studies graduate Raffaele Sollecito, have also been charged.

During a hearing this past weekend, prosecutor Giuliano Mignini told the court in his summation that manga that depicted the murder "of female vampires on Halloween night" had been found in Sollecito's apartment. Mignini claimed that the manga's images of "naked women dead on the floor and blood on the walls" were similar to the crime scene at Kerscher's apartment.

The prosecution had tried to link manga to the murder in January by telling the court that Sollecito's password for his computer was "AKIRAFUGA." Akira Fūga was the artist in the 1994 Shin Maō Dante remake (pictured at right) of Go Nagai's Maō Dante (Demon Lord Dante) horror manga.

All that proves is that a psychopath with no imagination couldn't think up a murder method himself so he copied one he saw somewhere else.
Mel Gibson's remake of The Life of Brian is nowhere near as funny as the original.

There are four autonomic responses, and they all start with F. Fright, fight, flight and making love. -Dr Karl

Well, they are trying to prove he did it. This is a hearing into whether he should be tried for the murder. Things that are kinda prove-ish do tend to have weight, you know. 8)
