Aussie ratings board to review for four hentai films

by blakus88 » Thu Jul 24, 2008 7:40 pm

Link to announcement

The results for this should be interesting. I know several hentai have been banned before relatively recently and had to be edited for an R18+ rating. Here's a list of anime which have had censorship problems in Australia (at the bottom of the "Urotsukidoji" review).

Feh.... It isn't like hentai anime is something one desperately wants to see being released onto dvd, here in Aus. The quality of the productions is low enough for it to be something you'd not bother with actually buying. No, one would rather acquire them through other means. 8)

This gets amusing when you consider that naked pictures of pre-pubecent children are considered art by the same board.

I find this rather amusing, although I'll agree that the quality of DVD's here are that of aids and fail.

I doubt we'll see anybody crying if those titles go off the market.

Review report

Seems like two of them have been banned due to the depiction of characters who appear to be underage engaging in explicit sexual acts. Also, only one of them has varied it's consumer advice and only in a minor fashion.

I just want to see what kind of fit Moetan causes when they try to decide upon a rating.

Strange double post...

Anyway, according to this, JB-Hifi has pulled ALL of the hentai titles from their shelves, even though they were reportedly selling well:

(taken from R-C - apparently it first surfaced somewhere in the madman forum:)

Porn in my anime section?

Post subject: JB

I know someone who works at JB and can confirm that nationwide the Hentai titles have been pulled from their shelves and all orders cancelled.

They weren't told the full story. Just that they'd no longer be selling hentai. Since it's really only the Siren range that's available they'd have lost a bit of business. There were several JBs that did quite well with hentai titles.

Still, the story that all staff are hearing is that one of the high high-ups in management found out what hentai was and that we were selling them (possibly via complaining mothers and the like?) and gave the word to end it all. They either didn't like the idea of JB selling the stuff, or didn't want any more complaints.

In any case, for you hentai fans, want titles? Go to the EzyDVD website and type "hentai" in the search bar. It'll bring up the whole Siren range including the upcoming titles (as they become known to EzyDVD)."

Rasberry would be kinda unimpressed by this.

I think I've alluded to it before: the vast majority of hentai titles are QUALITY, therefore not necessarily worth your $$$. Certainly not even at the cost JB was selling them for.

Am I sad to see this falling apart? Not really.

the "animation is for kids" meme is still strong. How strong? My brother's copy of Ninja Scroll came from the children's section of K-Mart's DVD department.
Mel Gibson's remake of The Life of Brian is nowhere near as funny as the original.

But that's just normal for us, as we don't have a dedicated section (and never will, hell we only get one small box of madman dvd's each week as it is)

That's true about Kmart having a small section for anime/adult cartoons.I would bet theyd even put " Argh! It's the Mr Hell Show!" dvds in the kids section too if the series had been made for dvds not just the tv back then, even though itd be like, MA or R rated just because its a "cartoon".

In another note, My grandmother originally thought anime was for kids aswell until she sat down next to me while I was sitting in lounge room with Armand (the now deceased laptop- thanks for killing Armand, Dave   ) and watched some of the petshop of horrors series with me :D (and she liked it!)

I can't say I feel compelled to buy DVDs when my box sets of FLCL and Someday's Dreamers both bugged by the end of the first time I watched them. Such low quality doesn't inpsire me to invest my money in them at all.

My Someday's Dreamers DVDs are fine, I just watched it again last week. The only ones I had issues with was .hack//LOTT which were clearly faulty so shinTokyo got me a replacement from Madman.

This issue with the Hentai DVD's just keeps getting weirder, apparently Bondage mansion is now R18+ again:

From R-C.com:

The July 30th media release stated that a six member panel of the Classification Review Board had found that:

"Bondage Mansion is RC because of a trailer depicting a character, who appears to be under 18, engaged in an explicit sexual act and there is no context for this depiction.”

While the August 13th media release states that a three member panel of the Classification Review Board has found that:

".....Bondage Mansion is classified R 18+, with the consumer advice, 'High level animated sex scenes and themes.

like, wtf??

If they can't make thier minds up about something, what hope do the rest of us have? :?

The reason "Bondage Mansion" was banned was because of a trailer depicting what looked like an underage girl in an explicit sex act. They must have dropped the trailer.

They've put detailed descriptions of what caused the ratings reviews in the Review Board Decisions section. "Holy Virgins" looks like a nasty piece of work (although I'm sure nowhere near some of the other stuff out there) and I wish my high school lessons were like the ones in "Classes in Seduction" .

Found quite a number of hentai dvds today in ezydvd...bunched with the non anime pornos all within eyelevel. the hentai dvds covers all look non risque/not naked except for the nurse one with her panties being pulled down by herself but yeah, it does look pretty innocent to a child's eyes, well pretty, whatever, so I think they'll be removed soon as theyre positioned right at the door, and I bet there'll be a few angry parents complaining about it being within a child's reach.. oh well!

Candice forgot to mention that the porn DVDs were on the top shelf (which is at a 12-year-old's eye level) above non-hentai anime and western animation DVDs, all under a sign saying "Anime".

I still don't know why they're bothering to sell these here. If people actually wanted to see them they could procure them in.... other ways, long before they had a release here.

Thats what I thought, Mappy. Maybe they really want pissed off parents..... I mean, no one would really want to buy such product in a very public place (i.e everyday shop sort of place, not a sex store if you know what I mean) unless youre really not that inhibited...
