Kamichu, Spice & Wolf, Hatsune Miku artists and more=Gelatin

The Japanese publisher Wanimagazine is launching a quarterly "leading-edge bishōjo" comic magazine called Gelatin on February 4. Hanaharu Naruko (Kamichu!, Shōjo Material) is illustrating the cover and bundled poster. 15 other artists are contributing original stories to the B5-sized publication with 192 pages — 160 of which are in color. The Comic Natalie and ITmedia's +D Games websites include samples of the artwork.

The 15 artists are Takamichi (Ehrgeiz game, Comic LO cover illustrator), Daisuke Moriyama (Chrono Crusade, World Embryo), Jū Ayakura (Spice and Wolf novel illustrator), Sakurako Gokurakuin (Sekirei, Aquarian Age: Juvenile Orion), Bosshi (O-jō-sama wa H ga O-suki, Mizugi Shōjo), Houdeneizou (Wagaya no Oinarisama., Asobi ni Iku yo!), toi8 (Disgaea 2, Alteil games), KEI (Vocaloid 2's Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin/Len characters), huke (Metal Gear Solid 4 co-character designer, Monster Hunter card illustrator), Mota (Kaitō Tenshi Twin Angel four-panel manga), John Hathway (Touhou Project dōjinshi), Atsushi Suzumi (Venus Versus Virus, Amefurashi), Shigeki Maeshima (Dragon Fly), Miggy (robot magazine), and SABE (Sekai no mago).

This is a pretty risky time to be launching a new publication. Even if Japanese publishers are protected by huge subsidies, print media has been one of the major casualties of the recession.
