I just read

Mangas

1. Shakugan no Shana vol 1 (yes yes I know)
2. Monster
3. Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi vol 1

Light novels

1. Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi vol 3

Interesting story on how Milkuru Adventure 00 was made.

2. Zero no Tsukaima Prologue

Anime not as epic as the novel, from I heard.

3. Kara no Kyokai by Kinoko Nasu ( man who created Fate/Stay Night and Shingeshutan Tsukihime)

4. Alice Confession: Gundam Sentinel Prologue

A story of Earth Federation Task Force Londo Bell and Iota Gundam also known as S Gundam.

Single volume version of Please Twins. Had a fair bit of content not in the series. 2nd half made a lot more sense of the whole scenario.

Genshiken 7 - Oh, yeah, things are heating up big time. Typical Kousaka got a job in that line of work and that Ohno and Ogiue are getting alone better. Hopefully something eventuates out fo the Ogiue-Sasahara tension that slowly built up through Volume 6 and this chapter. The 2 US chicks really threw a juicy spanner into the works. I somehow get the feeling there are IRL versions of Angela and Sue that I know already. And finally we get the mandatory hot springs trip. Time for Barron's favourite blase background element - steam, steam, steam. :) It'll be interesting to see how THAT chapter will be animated.

Life 3 - Think I can safely say this is a good series now. Yes, schoolgirls are this bitchy, kniving and evil. I just wish it wasn't drawn that shoujoish, it just doesn't work in some frames. Least Ayumu is finally showing signs of growing a spine. Hatori is a nice character, I want to see more of her ASAP. (As in more story involvement, not the first 20 pages, Madman).

Currently I'm collecting Lunar Legend Tsukihime, Hayate the Combat Butler and Rozen Maiden. Wish Zombie Loan would be licensed or something.

I was gonna start on Black Cat.... but after going through scanslations, I decided to stop on Volume 2(TAO??!! WHY?!!). I could trade/sell/donate/whatnot my two volumes of Black Cat if anyone wants them.... but then I don't have them right now so you'd have to wait till Semester 2.

Starting to read Black Cat too! Although it seems to be the typical 'strongest guy ever with superfast moves incrompehensible to the norm vs the other strongest guy' kinda thing, it's kinda cool.

Heh, just got the complete copy of the series.... (in digital form...)

I was kinda hoping Black Cat would go towards a more Bebop-ish direction, but then it kinda went all dragonball. Thats how I word it anyway.

If the manga of Black Cat is anything like the anime, it will run along the thin edge of my "forlorn hope to like it" and my "innate repulsion towards banality".

Or something.

Well.. not really, dragon ball would be worse I guess:
1. Meet some real strong badass
2. Try to fight them
3. They lost
4. They train to become stronger
5. They beat the badass
6. Go to step 1.

At least Black Cat isn't as periodic.... And it's not that long. Meh, I usually hate it when something has no foreseeable ending... (ie it goes on without ending)...

Black Cat debuted on satellite here last Thursday .

Apparently the manga is heaps better than the anime, and I don't really like the manga so watching the anime could only turn out badly for me.

Which brings to the question ...

Is it a business strategy of satellite channels to supply the worse anime available ?

Apologies for deviating manga thread .

It isn't the worst show I've ever seen, but yes, I dare suggest it would disappoint fans of the manga as a translation from page to screen. Once a certain character dies, the show goes off on unforeseen tangents, which makes it look as if it were made up as it goes along.

Well Gonzo did that to Chrno Crusade as well. Except that I absolutely loved the Chrno Crusade manga. And the anime just went off tangent at the carnival into this Jesus reference rubbish.

About Chrono Crusade, I only read the first volume of the manga, but I'm up to DVD 3 of the anime. So far it's not bad, I don't know how things will go next though.

After contemporary mangas, that I thought would never be animated, joined the moving-pictures club, I have been expecting Pretty Face to become an anime.... for a few years, now....

All things considered, it would probably be better than what is airing atm....

CC Manga >> CC Anime. TRUST ME.

Life volume 4 was blutig intense. Almost a surprise this won the title of shoujo manga of the year in Japan in 2006 considering it's verging on anti-shoujo with how violent and brutally honest it is. I'm reserving proper judgement until Volume 5. It's very deep in character and plot but the ultimate point/purpose of this series is still elusive. It's not giving any indications at all. So far it's been a graudal downward spiral for the main character. If there isn't any silver lining or redemption incoming, I think I'll jump off this one.

Highlighted for truth. Seriously. Gonzo seems to believe they have the right to stamp their own vision on those manga>anime conversions they produce despite the fact they seem almost utterly incapable of finding anyone with sufficient talent to produce scripts that actually work.... in a manner that makes people not cringe with embarrassment and/or drive King Tigers through the plotholes and/or are even on a par with the plot of the manga which they should have just used as a guide for the show in the first place. I mean, they really haven't learnt their lesson since Chrno Crusade.... Look at Welcome to the NHK. The second half of that series goes off in directions the manga never went.... /khaaaan

Ack.... Struck my Gonzo Rant nerve again....

For reasons unknown, while hoping Lunar Legend Tsukihime vol 4 was available at Pulp Fiction.... (it was not D:) I stumbled upon Shugo Chara. And bought it. For it was very pink and by Peach-Pit. Its a fun weird shoujo manga which I think I'll really enjoy the more I read.

Tsukihime 4 is out this Thursday.

Where's Elfen Lied manga available?! Want, want!

Recent reads: 12 Days (one volume gem), Life 4, Chibi Vampire 4, krieg handwerk: Sunwell Trilogy 3, Genshiken 8.

Genshiken 8 is just Genshiken at its best. Oguie was the best thing to happen to this series. The three females have taken a more central focus of late and it's been a good tone and all.

Welcome to the NHK 3 - The RPG bit was hilarious, the brainwash part was amusing, but the con artist part seemed weaker and not that well constructed compared to the anime version. Decent volume but if this series goes beyond 5 volumes it's too long.

Life 5 - Finally a volume that isn't mürrisch! Ayumu finally grows a blutig spine with the aid of the ever-licious Hatori. Makes up for the absolute waste of time the previous volume was and then some.

There are more than six volumes of Welcome to the NHK.

I was under the impression you guys were boycotting AVCON. I don't go to AVCON for the screenings, I go there for the vendors, the cosplay, the quiz and the games. I've got the rest of the year for anime and manga.

I'll be getting any other available volumes ASAP. I'm waiting on Pete to get them in.

Boycott AVCON? It's the only anime convention in Adelaide! Where else can I easily cosplay? Plus I did do the website for them and am helping with events.

We're not boycotting AVCon, I just didn't want our forum to be on theirs as I didn't like their moderation.

I don't think any of us are boycotting AVCon.... That wasn't really the reason why AJAS split off with a forum of its own. It was, more or less, what we weren't able to talk about there that kinda forced our hand....

And yes, I haven't really sat down for screenings of anything at AVCon since, oh, 2003.... Mostly because a) I've seen all the good things before and b) pretty much everything else is too shite to watch. Especially when they theme their screenings playlist.... It's the vendors (especially for manga) and the other events that I go for.

Though my father's wedding is probably going to get in the way of the AVCon Saturday this year.... :(

Read NANA 4-6 the day after 2-3. Had a peek at the last volume of Death note and now I know why the ending is insanely bad. I am definitely not investing in this series. Heck, I think I'm put off the anime too.

Later Volumes of NHK one of the main characters end up stripping every 2-3 chapters. Then they try to add a Days of our lives style romance which was suppose to be humorous but really painful to read, like beating a dead horse with a nuclear bomb.

Volume 4 had the one where Satou and Y-guy both go completely bonkers, his senpai tries to have an affair with him but he turns her down Misaki gets ultra jealous of the senpai and makes Satou her slave, Satou nearly commits suicide, Misaki starts telling a mixture of truth and lies about her past/family. And apparently early in Volume 5, Satou will end up in hospital or a mental asylum according to the preview.

Believe me, NHK anime > NHK manga.

I also learnt 2 weeks ago Trinity Blood anime >> Trinity Blood manga. The manga makes my eyes bleed. Esther looks like she's 80, that's how badly it's drawn. I'm amazed Gonzo actually made a watchable series out of what was a mega trainwreck of a manga.

Last it gets much much more worse, read up to Vol 6, you just don't know whats going on.

Like you said NHK Anime > NHK Manga, the anime ended when it should of ended not turned into an ecchi series with a hentai style scenario.

Believe me, NHK anime > NHK manga.

I tend to look upon the continuation of the NHK manga as the characters being so screwed up that, no matter what they try to do, they'll never be happy because they don't believe they deserve to be / it is impossible for anyone to be (and therefore, someone that screwed up takes entirely the wrong path to solve/salve the issue).

The ending the anime had was one of convenience. Some of the things that happen in volume 4 occur near the end of the anime but, with there only being 2-3 episodes to go, there was no time to flesh them out the way the manga did, so they changed things to leave no major threads dangling at the end of episode 24, even as far back as the episodes with the Offline Meeting (where the anime and manga really start to diverge).

As far as GONZO's ham-fisted attempts at fiddling with the original manga plots go, it is one of their better efforts, as it makes some kind of warped sense in the NHK world, and GONZO really don't like revisiting their past efforts. Very convenient.

Life - That manga is so Schadenfreude. You read it for the pain and misery all the characters get and nothing else. I read a preview of Volume 7. Let's just say if you thought things were bad enough already, that things go into 10th level of hell/complete sociopath mode.

I guess you're asking about Hikaru No Go as I doubt Bizenghast would ever become an anime. I've only seen the first few episodes of the series and it seems to follow the manga quite well with only a few minor scenes missing. So in other words it's pretty much the same... I just prefer the manga in this situation as it's easier to read on a train and not get mugged.

Only 10 Volumes of something like 23 have been released of the manga... so I think I'll hold off for a while. The reason I stopped was the subtitle quality, it was good translations but the typos were driving me insane. Does your copy have good subtitles?

i honestly don't remember if they were that bad. except for one thing that was so bad i saved a screenshot of it somewhere. then again, it was just the warning to sit away from the screen

Chibi Vampire. Also known as "Crappy Wee-a-boo Title" or, more correctly, "Karin". People should never sully the works of others with their own demonstrative lack of imagination, especially as there are no "chibi" vampires in the manga.

Angel Densetsu written by Norihiro Yagi, the writer of Claymore.
Angel Densetsu is a story about Seiichirou Kitano, a kind and naive boy with the heart of an angel, but the sinister looks of a devil. This causes many misunderstandings, leading people to assume that he is a villain or heroin addict, and results in a career as the head thug, or "school guardian" at his new school. (Stolen from Wikipedia)

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;" - William Butler Yeats

They were worried it was going to get confused with Kamincha Karin so the manga-ka and original ublishers gave the go-ahead for the rename. AMusing that the anime kept the original name but was so crap in comparison to the manga. For a title drawn by a former h-artist who never tries to hide the fact, the manga is tastefully drawn and hardly features fanservice. This seires does give me a good laugh and swoon when I need it.

Only in the west would people be concerned that those who buy translated manga are stupid enough to confuse Karin with Kamichama Karin, especially as there seems to be an almost complete lack of confusion back in the motherland....

And yes, the manga was pretty good. And has the bonus of not including Jar Jar Bin.... I mean Winner Sinclair. Stupid, irritating caucasian stereotypes ftl. If I hear "Karinnnn-sannnn-a" one more time, I'm going to have to sacrifice some more blonds to the devil. 8)

Chibi Vampire Volume 7 - Such a cute, funny series. Manga version is so light-hearted, pure, properly constructed and good-looking compared to that ecchi-fest anime which just didn't cut it. End of Volume 7 is insanely cute.

Life 6-8. I decided out of sheer curiousity to see whether this series followed on from the promise of Volume 5 and finally stopped being mürrisch and got gritty but hopeful. Surprisingly, id did and did it well. Ayumu finally grew a freaking spine and then some - for real. Miracles do happen, White. :)

Seriously, they kill off half the cast in one episode because they realise they're pointless to the conclusion. So why even introduce them in the first place? Just to show us what a badass Chikane has become when she turns to the dark side? Rage!

Supposedly yes. I do know for sure the 'flute' scene is shown in full detail. Along with a lot of other stuff. It was sealed as M18+ with 5 reasons. Uusally a title has just the 1.

Edit: After seeing the 'flute' scene...yeah...they had to rate that 18+...

Getter Robo Go as the progressive scanlated chapters come out, Crossbone Gundam (same deal), and Otome Kikan Gretel because why the hell not?

Yeah, not much at the moment. My literature backlog is large enough as it is. Still haven't finished that copy of Ever17 either...

Chibi Vampire 13 (final) when it hits Pulp Fiction tomorrow. And once that is bought, I'll be down to just the one series to buy volumes of...NANA. Unless Lunar Legend Tsukihime 6 wasn't the final volume of Tsukihime.

Hmm, as I already suspected, there is a 14th volume. Why the hell did Tokyopop say in their catalogs that there were only 13?! Noobs. Swear, I'll be so glad once that final volumes comes - no more Tokypop titles! Especially with their new cheap-arse covers.
