Though the Japanese have a strange sense of what is good or bad, I'm rather surprised to see Mushishi on that list. I really want to see it, now.

Even the trailer for this movie is great.

These I like:
2. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (Movie)
3. Laputa - Castle in the Sky (Movie)
5. Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (movie)
8. My Neighbor Totoro (Movie)
10. Ghost in the Shell (Movie)

These I like not as much:
7. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV)
9. Full Metal Alchemist (TV)

This I haven't seen enough of to make a judgement:
6. Mushishi (TV)

This is has a good story, even if the animation is ye olde and shocking:
4. Mobile Suit Gundam (TV)

And this I won't even comment on, because it isn't as good as everyone says and I can't be arsed saying why. Everyone should know why, if they think for themselves:
1. Neon Genesis Der Krieg (TV)

lols, go NGE. I personally loved it :P up to the last 2 episodes, I prefer the ending where everything goes to hell in the two movies. I guess people just like it because they can't get it out of their minds, it was a massive event way back in late 1990s. I remember SBS advertising it a short while after it was released in Japan, and I killed my video store everytime one of the VHS's came out late. It deserves a high place.

Unfortunately... COWBOY BEBOP is the greatest Anime ever made, and the entire top 10 should consist of:

1. Cowboy Bebop
2. Cowboy Bebop
3. Cowboy Bebop
4. Everything H. Miyazai made!!
5. Samurai Champloo
6. Bebop!!!!
7. FMA
8. Robotech
9. CCS (Cherry blossoms and Clow cards all the way!)
10. Whichever has more blood + minderjährigen mädchen

As I said, the Japanese fans have this strange concept of what is good and bad. I mean, Slam Dunk? Doraemon?

Well, they love Slam Dunk over there like mad, which is why the Genshiken ppl refer to it in Book 6. However, no one could give a toss about it outside Japan.

Oh well, what can one say about a country that makes Gundam condoms?

I think that the didn't get a representative sample here. Perhaps of they tried asking people over 18 they'd have more luck. To me it looks like a list of obvious clasics and current titles.

If you asked your average Australian TV viewer what the best shows of all time were you would get the same thing.

I know they like it. But it is hard to understand why. The character designs a blutig ugly and the sports-team genre has been done to death in both manga and anime. Slam Dunk added nothing new to the genre except the then trendy sport of basketball. I'd wage a campaign of book and video burning to remove this abomination from the face of the planet, but what would be the point? Will it prove, to the zombies who read and like this shite, that my view is, somehow, the right one? 8)

What can one say about the country that brought us the Hello Kitty vibrator? And you thought the Sailormoon sausages were bad.... 8)

The Ghibli films are so obvious that I'd have been surprised if they hadn't been included. And I'm not surprised that the original Mobile Suit Gundam is there, either, as the impact that show had in 1979 makes the Der Krieg phenomenon pale by comparison. MSGundam practically created fandom en-masse in Japan, the kind of which had not existed before.

But Der Krieg, itself, at number 1? Yes, I fall into the right group to have been there when this show hit. But I moved on, because there were a huge number of shows, in its immediate aftermath, that were a whole lot better/more interesting than it. I eventually became an ENEMY of the show when the whiny mürrisch n00b fanboys made it their cause celebre, and started a laughable campaign of Anno Hideaki bashing wherever I could. I loved the mürrisch responses I got from that. Then it aired on Aus tv and I just gave up.... 8)

You mean there are shows on current Australian tv that people actually like? Oh wait.... Most Australian commercial tv viewers are congenital idiots. Forget what I said. 8)

Thats not half as bad as them doing this:

In Japan, there's an annual festival which worships what we westerners call "the männlichen genitalien." The Kanamara Penis Festival celebrates everything penis. The Japanese seriously know how to rock with their cocks out. The festival is most famous for a giant penis which is carried through town. And unfortunately that giant penis is fake and doesn't belong to a dude or I'd be on that scheiße.

I think the festival is basically for phallic statues and Kodak moments of your mom sitting on a giant wooden penis or licking a penis pop. Whatever it's for, I'm into it!

What's interesting is that in a recent global survey of people's satisfaction with their sex lives, the Japanese came in pretty close to the bottom (no pun intended).. [hohoh]
