The July 2009 Season Thread

by Last Exile » Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:42 am

So the April quarter is coming to a close, with Eden of the East being the most noted series. Although FMA: Brotherhood looks set to be the next shounen series that will be around for ages (unfortunately).

And now attention shifts to the July quarter. What does it have to offer? Any titles that stand out for you?

For me, I've got my eyes on three in particular:

Aoi-Hana

J.C. Staff are behind this one. Two childhood female friends, Fumi and Akira, were forced to lose contact when one moved away. Ten years later, they end up going to the same high school. The two gradually reconnect with each other as they tackle the pressures of high school and life. But their struggles also bring them closer together...

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Bones are behind this one. The chances of a 7.0 magnitude earthquake happening in Japan in the next 30 years is 70%. Here is what would probably happen if an 8.0 earthquake happened...Mirai and Yukata, sister and brother on an island excursion during their summer vacation, find their world turned upside down when an earthquake changes the face of Tokyo in an instant. With the aid of Mari, a motorcycle delivery woman, Mirai and Yukata struggle to get back to their home in western Tokyo.

Aika Zero

Studio Fantasia material. You know what that means - beautiful females and fun times. This series is described as 'a return to the legendary low-angle, sexy action anime style series.' In a future world that is mostly underwater, 19 year-old Aika Sumeragi goes to college while training as an agent by assisting in Gozo Aida's salvage business.

Couple of other titles I'll be giving a shot but not holding my breath over are Spice and Wolf 2 and Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (When the Seagulls Cry)[Chiaki Kon returns to direct a Higurashi-like series set in a different time and place with different people].

Finished Aoi Hana and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 over the last couple of days.

Ratings:

Aoi Hana - 9.7/10. #4 on my all time list.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - 9/10.

Yes, they are really that good. The July season is shaping to be the saviour of anime for this year.
