User Account Activation v2.0

by Ryan White » Fri Jun 15, 2007 2:08 am

Just to see what other people's opinion is, but I'm thinking we should change the account activation policy back to the users emails. Since Tim made a custom captcha for the initial sign up, we haven't had a single spammer try to sign up for the forum. We could trial it for a week or so and see whether or not it's the account activation or Tim's work that's keeping the scum at bay.

It's definitely worth a try... If it works then you know Tim's code is doing the job.

Ok I guess we should try it. as it does seem to be working :D <touch_wood/>

And I suppose if bots do start slipping past. I can give it a tweak.

I dare suggest Tim's efforts have not been in vain, because the bots have been hammering on the door to the forum, lately, and are yet to get in.

I have finally changed the account activation back to the user setting. Seeing the number of people interested at the Travelling Roadshow convinced me that I don't love clicking links that much.
