It has some similarity's to a MMORPG, but really completely different game style, it's what ArenaNet calls a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game), (More Info Here). It has too many differences to be classed as a MMO, well in my opinion anyways.

Personally, it's a much more enjoyable game, I've never enjoyed MMO's that much.

No, because we are not sick of hearing about it yet. We've actually heard bugger all about any other MMORPGs, only a certain someone raving on about the War.

My son plays Guild Wars, and although i dont play myself (i am too busy pursuing other activities), i often watch him play. I have seen other MMPORG's, but Guild Wars seems to me to be one of the best out there, both in gameplay and in detail. Definately better than 'the war'.

You know who to ask then.

@Atory - Any MMO allows casual play. The only thing that will dictate the amount you play is yourself. Any that is made properly will allow casual players to gear up properly.

Yeah, when I'm not in the mood, it's easy just to go in, do one Mission / PvP Battle / Quest and leave again. It's not like you have to sit there grinding for hours on end just to gain one level

This is a standard in MMOs over the last few months. Daily quests/repeatables that require 1 objective and get you gold, rep and honour along with other stuff.

Levelling curves in MMOs have been softened as well. Much easier to level now than back in the early days.

Just set a time frame and stick to it. IRL > quests, XP and loot. There's always another time.

I wouldn't want to play a MMORPG... Just an ORPG, hence why I thought Guild Wars is a good choice. Phantasy Star also looks interesting but that usually requires you to pay to play online.

You can thank 'the war' for that, If 'the war' didn't exist MMOs would still be on EQ level (you must team, lose experience per death, can delevel) . 'the war' did rewrite the rulez of MMOs, promoted solo-play which didn't exist back in the hey-day, introduced easy access to high powered items, fast-leveling (don't say its slow) ,etc, etc. Essentially making any MMOs like Diablo rather then high-end hardcore RPGs, like Morrowwind, any Bioware RPG game for example.

If you want a perfect analogy of 'the war' this is it. What 'the war' done to MMOs is the same of what the Wii done to the console world, turned everything upside down, promoted casual play rather than hardcore play and reviled by the most obsessed hardcore gamers. Any how with that aside, Guild Warz 1: 'the ripoff experience' just took 'the war' bgs and solely focused upon it. Not a bad game in any respect but the community is fairly small compared to 'the war' players.

Josh (my son) plays a lot of 'team v's team' battles on Guild that are quick to play and lots of fun.

For an MMORPG you really have to especially when MMORPGs are playing in 4 dimensions, you have to factor in time and if it takes 1 hour+ to make a party to do monster A it really isn't much point in playing the game.

He obviously totally overlooked my comment. I was thinking a more direct approach may have worked. He seems to mention nothing but the war anymore. Am I the only one concerned? Probably not, but I guess most others have given up trying to have a conversation without the mention of the war.

I am concerned indeed. I do reckon his behavior's going bad, due to the game and yes, frankly I didn't like what I was seeing of his behavior lately and the fact that most of us has been overlooking that, so I'm happy to know I'm not the only person who is concerned, Atory. I am seriously considering being blunt with Mendes and tell him to cut game playing back to say, 3, 4 days a week, with a couple or so days of break away from anything related to that "war".

I'll include your face!

I think you found a nerve.

I think I actually heard that on the radio the other night... if so, they stole the tune from the Russians.
Mel Gibson's remake of The Life of Brian is nowhere near as funny as the original.

Oh? Do Explain. Because the lead singer claimed it took 3 albums for him to finally get it right. I'd love to nail Gerard Way.

Well they played something that sounded a lot like a Russian folksong (not the one the Tetris theme is based on), I wasn't paying attention to the back-announce but I think they said "black parade".

oh and the lyrics were something like "we're all dead/we all die/we're all dead/mumble about pie"

Then let me make it clear.

Nail Gerard Way to a cross and let Mother War have her way with him while Fear and Regret watch. Since they're his worst enemies, it'll ruin him permanently.
