I have a sinking feeling...

by IceLee » Mon Sep 17, 2007 11:38 pm

That AvCon next year is seriously going to be bad... the theme has been declared.

"The AVCon 2008 theme has been decided and theme (as some of youy have probably guessed) is Space Opera!

This means that anime like:

Robotech
Gundam
Nadesico
Galaxy Express
Vandred
Banner of the Stars

will all be part of the theme as well as any games with plot relating to Space Opera."

At least you gundam fans have something to rejoice over

You forgot iDOLM@STER XENOGLOSSIA. Very likely to be the only 'Mecha in Space' show I've ever actively followed.

...Good thing I'm not going to Avcon. I may be a 4chan level otaku, but I suppress my power level in public. 8)

I am going to love AVCon next year... The theme is of my interests... It's a shame I won't be cosplaying to the theme though.

Gundam it Leroy! :D (well it amused me at least)

I'm wondering if there will be any cardboard-and-string Gundam cosplayers.
Mel Gibson's remake of The Life of Brian is nowhere near as funny as the original.

Im actually not pleased on the choice of theme, because I was leaning towards the undead/horror theme so it doesnt encourage me to consider going next year, actually its making me want not to go even more so.

That would have made me not pleased with the choice of theme. I get enough of that from the gawficks/emus that hang out in Rundle Mall. :hmm:

Why can't pedomoe be a theme? It would double attendance figures, and triple profit margins on everything related. :D

The undead/horror theme would have suited my cosplay but as Bazza said it would bring in too many of the kinds of people that just ruin conventions. We had enough of them with the Rock theme.

A space opera theme would work really well, as long as it's true space opera and not just giant robots in space. Think Planetes.

I don't mind this theme as much as the blutig rock show theme. But it will, once more, mean they're going to "theme" their anime playlists. I can see Sol Bianca* being played all over again....

Seriously, we'll go through another year with the latest animes being snubbed.

*Not that I mind it, it's just blutig ancient.

Yes, well, one only has to think back to 2005, when they themed the playlist to contain anything that had even the vaguest reference to pirates and ninjas. Granted, most of 2005's best shows were yet to debut when AVCon was on.... 8)

The bunnies think AVCon should have a minderjährigen mädchen theme that's really a sting operation.

Blame it on the number of AVCons I've been to. They all kinda blend into one after a while.

Yes, AVCon 2006.... When they had an entire year's worth of decent stuff that they didn't play because a)they stuck to the Pirates vs Ninjas theme and b)those running AVCon only like Naruto anyway. 8)

then again, i didn't mind this year's avcon too much, mostly because it came down to hanging out with reasonably interesting/entertaining people. (damn lack of females who like me)
EDIT: this never happened, the matter has been seen to

The distinct lack of characters who conform to my sexy cosplay body dimensions has stopped me from ever considering this. Apart from getting into a Bonta-kun suit. With flapjacket, helmet, rifle and riot stick accessories. 8)

I'd be more worried about possible run-ins with:

A) The Footy Show
B) Bob Francis
C) The Chaser
D) All of the above

I'm so tempted to help Mappy make a Snorlax costume now... Damn it... I've got my work cut out for me with my next cosplay as it is!

On that note I just finished sewing up most of a EGA costume... just need to make the jabot now.
