Might be interesting, but like all things the event will always be the boring part. You just can't beat the Crown Casino....

How much is a bus ticket to Melbourne? I figure if anyone knows, it'd be rasberry.

No, I refuse to drive to Melbourne. Those damn Vic drivers nearly killed me last time. >.<

WTF is a hook turn?

SIGH

You should take a thing called a Phone Book and look up the Bus Services. I'm sure ringing a few numbers and asking how much does it cost to go to Melbourne wouldn't hurt.

However I can help you in the plane and Train department.

IF your a Student Train is the way to go there is an Adelaide to Melbourne return now for $99 dollars ATM on the OVERLAND.

The train is good, provided you can aford to waste half a day. Just in case a freight train derails ahead of you when you're 4 hours from Adelaide so you have to wait for an engine to arrive behind you to tow you back to the nearest town so you can get on a bus.

(true story. Also one time a bus home from Ballarat was delayed for 6 hours because the driver got lost on the way to the pick-up point.)

Check the Kinokuniya site. They have a list of all the stores in Melbourne and they're all loaded.

As for the 'other' stuff, we'll leave the to Canberra. ;)

It's a cunning plan. After driving around in circles all day, you're too dizzy to remember what you wanted to see the politicians about even if you can find them.

We both started from the thin end, so I think that would be the top end. At $1.80 each, I may decide to bring a few home with me (photo's will be up by the end of next week, however I will have them for viewing at the next meeting). Trouble is, I have a little extra baggage already to take home (cheap game console related), so I may need to buy an extra suitcase.

Now, I'll add something to this thread....

They also name their woolworths, safeway for some odd reason. Why (they are named woolies in Sydeny)?probably lots of people get mugged in shopping centres in Melbourne. Maybe lotsa flashers, maybe lotsa druggies. Well Melbourne is the crime capital of Australia.

They probably obtain that junk by mugging Japanese people who bought it into the airport.

It' s a good thing I don't have a credit card....I will tell everyone how much I actually spent at this week's meeting. I will also be bringing a little 'something' along with me...so no blabing Ras, James and Barron.

...and to think that girls were prepared to sleep with me just because I had this item...

No there weren't (although I brought some other cool stuff home...I had to buy the biggest box at Australia Post just to get them all home in one package). Although I will only have the one cornet coming back with me, this is not what I will be bringing...and it's a "loooong" story...

That was one of the more disturbing items he'd bought. So it got centre stage, last Tuesday. I'm not sure about the other things he got, because that just stood out.

Seriously, I looked at the schedule for the anime they played at Manifest, and they included everything that was anything from the last 12 months and more. Even mostly forgettable things like Saint October. Are we going to organise an AJAS visit to next year's event, because if so, I'm in there....

ROAD TRIP!

Seriously. If 4 of us put our bus fares together it should cover the cost of getting Shana over there easily... Plus I get to try my hands at a hook turn :D

As for luggage: Remove bodykit, receev trailer hook. 8)

Well, *you* might not be...

You can fit alot more crap into a car then on a bus for less (I'm assuming they charge for excess cargo?). Also, the transportation of various goods requiring discretion becomes much easier... 8)

Driving to Melbourne's not that bad, although I wouldn't ride with Bazza. Sticking to the speed limit it takes about 8 hours (6 if you have long range fuel tanks and are willing to wear a nappy). Could take longer if you wanted to stop at all the tourist traps along the way (such as the giant egg, snake pit, or town that's just a servo and mini golf course).
Mel Gibson's remake of The Life of Brian is nowhere near as funny as the original.

Why not? I'm not such a bad driver with other people in the car. I'm only dangerous by myself. I think its what you humans call 'conscience'. :?

How far is Melbourne in kilometers? Highway driving nets me about 400k's to a tank if I'm careful.

Let's just say you'd probably get to Horsham on a tankful of petrol. Most people plan to get that far before stopping.

Oh, I geddit. Mlebourne is an inside joke of some kind.

How do I failed at joke recognition?
edit: someone explain it to me. Google is useless and wiki, unsurprisingly, redirects to Melbourne.

also: I got into a fight with a Victorian last time I was in Horsham. I'm not allowed to go there any more. Berluddy Vics. 8)

Jeff Kennet's Gift to Melbourne ala the Crown Casino is only worth going to. The rest of the Melbourne is just a bigger Adelaide and renaming Woolworths to Safeway errgh, what so safe about Woolworths? All foods in supermarkets are posionous.

I heard the shopping is good in Melbourne and also when you walk through a crowded street people don't move out of the way for you, lol.

At least they aren't paying attention to you with the same degree of antipathy. As would happen in Failsbury.... I mean Salisbury. 8)

I know my car can make it to Melbourne on two tanks of fuel. Plus it's a station wagon which means plenty of space for crap.

When there aren't water restrictions in place. They decided to shut the display off when I went there in 2002 for that reason. Don't want to be starting fires when you're trying to stop the overuse of water resources.
