Smelly gamers

by edible_hat » Mon Jul 16, 2007 4:11 pm

Avcon happens to coincide with a couple of big gaming cons in the US. And of course the webcomics are posting about it.

Of particular relevance is Ctrl+Alt+Del, which reminded me why I never do much gaming at AVCon (except this year where I'll probably spend all the time playing Zoo Tycoon on the DS Lite that I'm buying this Thursday)

Apparently in the Nordic regions there's a convention every year for 5,000 odd people on what's normally an ice rink, where they all play lans or various games for a whole week. Now that would really generate some smells.

and we have enough issues with our lans going for 27 hours...
then again, some of the admins spend the night before the lan at the lan hall, setting up

The very least they could do is use some deodorant. Why else does the stuff have the nicknames "shower in a can" and "French shower"?

I hear the AVCon staff have invested in bug bombs for this year's gaming rooms.*

well, we normally request that people bring some shower in a can to our lans and i think we were thinking of implementing a policy where if you are believed to smell too much, we force a canned shower upon you

Just open a curtain or two. The sunlight should cause them to dissipate into nothing in no time. 8)

I think we have discovered the true reason as the why gamers give off an unacceptable stench. They must believe that if it's okay for plant life to be covered in condiments it must be okay for them to be as well.

Well not all of them have mastered the art of eating while either watching anime or playing games like I have. ;)

I find reality to be somewhat overrated and rather dull. But it's still more interesting than Big Brother Up Late.

You eat with your left hand which still leaves 2 fingers for hand controls, which is enough, while the right hand does the mouse. It's not that hard.

you should see what it's like around my friend's machine; they once found a bowl which could be lifted by the spoon that was in it

No, snorting coke and bourbon out of your nose after you see something funny has disastrous side effects. I know about 10 online gamers that confessed to shorting out their stuff via this incident.

A forum I used to frequent had rule #1 of "no eating or drinking at your computer", because some dummkopf drank while reading said forum, snorted beer all over his keyboard, and threatened to sue the forum owner. He couldn't find a lawyer dumb enough to take the case.
