What the hell is up with Japanese ads?

They seem to range from "Weird" - > "Weirder"-> "&#%$ Weird!"

I should dig out my old vhs tapes from the days when the fansubbers left the tv ads in.... Some of the ads back then were better than the shows themselves. And some were pretty obscure as to what they were advertising. I seem to remember one where general consensus was divided between freshmints and condoms.... 8)
